Circular economy: an opportunity for impact
In today’s shifting geopolitical landscape, the circular economy is moving from concept to strategic priority. By helping to decouple economic growth from virgin resource use, circular models have the potential to deliver environmental benefits, strengthen supply chain resilience and unlock new investment opportunities.
Across the EU, policymakers are pushing for higher recycling rates and greater resource independence. Yet despite ambitious targets, overall circularity rates have stagnated. The challenge is no longer a lack of ideas, it is the need to scale proven circular innovations into commercially viable, operational platforms.
Scaling up brings complexity and risk, particularly for first-of-a-kind (FOAK) projects. However, these risks can be mitigated through structured supply and offtake agreements, supportive regulatory frameworks, targeted guarantees and robust lender protections. When carefully structured, circular FOAK projects can represent compelling, impact-aligned opportunities for private credit investors.
